Environmental and Social Governance (ESG) Initiatives
01 - Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Reduction
Priority is given to steady curtailment of GHG emissions in response to environmental regulations by living up to the expectation of stakeholders who are increasingly cognizant of the climate risk of palm oil milling activities.
The operational approaches are to:
- capture methane gas as feedstock in biogas plant for generating power to be sold as grid electricity; and
- reduce carbon dioxide emission by substituting for fossil fuel such recyclable bio-fuel as mesocarp fibres, palm kernel shell and empty fruit bunches (EFB) pellets.
02 - Renewable Energy Conservation
The use of photovoltaic system is purported to increase output of renewable energy through conversion of solar energy into electricity for own consumption in the kernel crushing plant.
03 - Occupational Safety and Health (OSH)
Vigilant adoption of safety measures at workplace is commonly practised in the mills for safeguarding workers’ safety, health and their well-being at all times.
Specific procedures on OSH are maintained in connection with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), covid-19 test, operating instructions for certain specialized vehicles, machinery, equipment or tools and hazardous or toxic chemicals that are likely to bring bodily harm. Group accident insurance schemes will be procured to insure the lives of workers together with comprehensive medical benefit plans that reimburse medical expenses incurred for both out-patient treatment and hospitalization therapy.
